What changed

Claude Code 2.1.310 shipped on October 23, 2026. The Monitor tool and plugin monitors now work on Bedrock, Vertex and Foundry and with telemetry or nonessential traffic disabled, and Enterprise Owners can control access to cloud sessions and Remote Control by custom role. The rest of the release fixes gateway compatibility, file cleanup, compaction, permission prompts and Windows hooks, along with the VS Code extension, cloud sessions, Claude Tag and the Code Review admin section.

New features

  • Monitor tool and plugin monitors on Bedrock, Vertex and Foundry

The Monitor tool and plugin monitors were not available on Bedrock, Vertex and Foundry, or when telemetry or nonessential traffic was disabled. They now are. Long foreground sleeps are now blocked in those setups too.

  • [Cloud sessions] Permissions in Enterprise custom roles

Claude Code cloud sessions and Remote Control permissions are now part of Enterprise custom roles, so Owners can control access to each by role.

  • [Cloud sessions] Choose file button for setup scripts

A new Choose file button loads a cloud environment’s setup script from a file.

Key improvements

  • Auto mode’s prompt before reading outside the working directories

The prompt before the first read outside the working directories now says when blocking those reads makes shell commands ask for permission.

  • Memory use during compaction in non-interactive sessions

Non-interactive sessions (-p, Agent SDK) use less memory during compaction when the transcript file is very large.

  • A mod’s Image in tmux and fullscreen rendering

A mod’s Image showed only its alt text inside tmux with allow-passthrough and focus-events on, and in kitty, Ghostty and iTerm2 3.5+ with fullscreen rendering. It now draws there.

  • Linux: /sandbox and Ubuntu’s AppArmor restriction

When Ubuntu’s AppArmor restriction on user namespaces keeps bubblewrap from starting the sandbox, /sandbox and the sandbox startup warning now name the restriction and how to lift it.

  • MCP tool timeouts with an unanswered elicitation

When an MCP tool call times out in a non-interactive session while the server’s elicitation is unanswered, the error now tells Claude that no answer came and not to repeat the call.

  • [Cloud sessions] Setup script output in the session start checklist

The checklist now shows a cloud environment’s setup script output in a scrolling box.

  • [Cloud sessions] Confirmation when turning on cloud sessions or Remote Control

Turning either on in admin settings now asks for confirmation and lists the custom roles that have that permission.

  • [Cloud sessions] Cloud environment dialog

Network access, setup script and environment variables now open from rows instead of every editor being listed at once.

  • [Code Review] Admin section loading

The Code Review admin section retries the first load and shows one Try again banner when it still fails.

Bug fixes

Gateways & compaction

  • Requests failing behind some gateways and compatible servers that reject the effort-2025-11-24 beta value or mid-conversation system messages; Claude Code now retries without them.
  • Compaction after a “Prompt is too long” error keeping too much of a conversation with dense text, such as base64 or SVG, so the next request could fail again.

Files & permissions

  • Background cleanup deleting some recent files, such as pasted images, when cleanupPeriodDays is set to a very large value.
  • File read permission prompts not showing where a symbolic link leads.
  • Windows: PreToolUse and PermissionRequest hooks letting a tool call through when Git Bash is missing and the hook’s command is only quoted strings, such as a quoted path.

Input

  • A question’s auto-continue timeout firing the moment the external editor closed after a long edit.

VS Code extension

  • Pressing Enter on the plan review card’s “Send feedback and keep planning” button approving the plan instead of sending your comments back.
  • The panel showing “Something went wrong” after “Switch branch & continue” on a cloud session opened from Session history’s Web tab.

Cloud sessions

  • Failed saves and archives in the cloud environment edit dialog showing no error inside the dialog.
  • Failed routine API token actions showing only a toast; the error now appears in the routine edit dialog.

Claude Tag (Slack)

  • Claude Tag treating ! commands such as !restart and !help as ordinary messages when sent in bold, italic or strikethrough.
  • Claude Tag admin channel and workspace pages being replaced by a load error when a background refresh of the bundle list fails.
  • Claude Tag’s spend limits page in admin settings reporting that no channels match a filter while channel names are still loading.

Code Review

  • The Code Review admin section hiding its repositories and switches after a failed refresh of the repository list.

Notes

  • If you use Bedrock, Vertex or Foundry, or disable telemetry or nonessential traffic, the Monitor tool and plugin monitors are now available, and long foreground sleeps are blocked.
  • If you are an Enterprise Owner, you can now grant cloud sessions and Remote Control by custom role. Turning either on in admin settings lists the custom roles that have that permission.
  • If you set cleanupPeriodDays to a very large value, recent files such as pasted images are no longer deleted by background cleanup after you update.
  • If you run Claude Code behind a gateway or compatible server that rejects the effort-2025-11-24 beta value or mid-conversation system messages, Claude Code now retries without them.
  • If the sandbox won’t start on Ubuntu, run /sandbox to see whether AppArmor’s restriction on user namespaces is the cause and how to lift it.
