Claude Code 2.1.252

A bug-fix-only release. Bash commands no longer fail with `task output swap refused (tasks dir moved or linked)` on some Macs, and `always allow` now saves in a project that has no `.claude/settings.local.json` yet. Remote Control sessions hosted by Claude Desktop or VS Code no longer stall for minutes after a tool finished when the connection to claude.ai is degraded, and background task notifications with very large failure output (for example git errors on a full disk) no longer make the conversation exceed the API request size limit.

What changed

Claude Code 2.1.252 shipped on August 31, 2026. It is a bug-fix-only release — no new features, no behavior changes — and all four fixes are cases where a specific setup was blocked outright: Bash commands failing on some Macs, “always allow” not saving in a project without a local settings file, Remote Control sessions stalling after a tool finished, and background task notifications pushing the conversation past the API request size limit.

Bug fixes

Execution & permissions

  • Bash commands failing with “task output swap refused (tasks dir moved or linked)” on some Macs

On the affected Macs, every Bash tool call returned this error instead of running the command, so anything that needed a shell command was blocked. Commands now run without it.

  • “always allow” not saving in a project that has no .claude/settings.local.json yet

Choosing “always allow” on a permission prompt left no record of it, so the same action prompted again every time. The choice is now saved even when the project has no local settings file yet.

Remote sessions & notifications

  • Remote Control sessions stalling for minutes after a tool finished

In Remote Control sessions hosted by Claude Desktop or VS Code, a degraded connection to claude.ai left the session sitting idle for minutes after a tool had already completed. It now continues as soon as the tool finishes, even on a degraded connection.

  • Background task notifications with very large failure output exceeding the API request size limit

When a background task produced very large failure output (for example git errors on a full disk), all of it went into the notification, so a single notification could push the whole conversation past the API request size limit. Large failure output no longer takes the conversation over the limit.

Notes

  • This is a bug-fix-only release — nothing to adjust in your settings, since no features or behaviors changed.
  • Worth updating if any of these apply to you — Bash commands failing with “task output swap refused” on a Mac, repeated permission prompts in a project with no .claude/settings.local.json, or Remote Control through Claude Desktop or VS Code over an unreliable connection.
